Abstract
THE PURPOSE OF THE COURSE IS TO PROVIDE AN OVERVIEW OF THE HISTORY OF THE COLLECTIVE BARGAINING PROCESS AND SOME INSIGHT INTO THE INTERACTION OF PARTICIPANTS. THE AIM IS TO SHOW THAT THERE IS MORE TO COLLECTIVE BARGAINING THAN JUST NEGOTIATING A CONTRACT. PARTICIPANT HANDOUTS INCLUDE SUMMARY SHEETS FOR THE SIX STAGES OF THE COLLECTIVE BARGAINING PROCESS, A LIST OF MATERIALS WHICH SHOULD BE PREPARED BEFORE THE FIRST COLLECTIVE BARGAINING SESSION, A QUIZ ON 'WHAT DO WORKERS WANT MOST FROM THEIR JOBS?' AN A CHART ENTITLED 'WHERE DOES YOUR STATE OR LOCAL GOVERNMENT FIT?' LOCAL GOVERNMENTAL MATERIALS AND COMPANY POLICY MATERIALS NEEDED FOR THE COURSE ARE DESCRIBED.
