Abstract

After reviewing the rise of the information society and computer dependency, the discussion centers on four areas of criminal justice in which computers and computer-based technologies are extensively used: database management, computer-assisted communication, computer-assisted instruction and training, and computer-assisted monitoring of offenders. Computers also provide a relatively new field for criminal endeavor. Evolving technologies, including artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and biomedical research, will have significant implications for the criminal justice field in the 21st Century. 10 notes and 50 references
