This analysis of issues related to children and adolescents whose behavior is considered to be deviant emphasizes that efforts to discuss or provide services to them are often limited by disciplinary, professional, or theoretical boundaries and that collaborative relationships among different fields are needed.
Abstract
Although disciplinary boundaries may be professionally satisfying, they limit our ability to understand the social, political, and historical contexts within which all behaviors occur. Similarly, the perspectives of individual disciplines can inhibit the ability to understand the complex nature of the problem. However, the problems of troubled and troubling youth transcend the conceptual, disciplinary, and service-delivery boundaries established by researchers and professionals. Therefore, collaborative relationships and collaborative responses are needed. Summary of content of the book's other chapters, notes, and 13 references.
