Racial and ethnic disparities appear in all areas of the criminal justice system, including community supervision. Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) are overrepresented in probation and parole and are disproportionally impacted by technical violations and revocations. Applying a racial equity lens to agencies’ policies and practices is critical to mitigating these harms, promoting the success of BIPOC people under supervision, and ensuring community well-being.
This webinar will highlight best practices for collecting race and ethnicity data, the importance of disaggregating data by race and ethnicity to identify inequities, and how to calculate the Relative Rate Index. Participants will also receive a framework to help them move beyond analysis and develop strategies that address racial disparities in practice within their own agencies. Anyone is welcome to attend this training, but it will be of particular benefit to data analysts and agency leaders.
