In honor of the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, OJJDP will host a webinar to provide a brief history of the Civil Rights Movement, hear from heroes with lived experience who were involved in the initial movement, and provide the audience an understanding of the Civil Rights Movement. This webinar will also explore the role youth can play to continue to advocate for equality and justice for all, and further highlight why OJJDP is celebrating the anniversary of this historic legislation. Presenters will discuss a program that works with youth which empowers them to continue fighting for civil rights for all. The Community Relations Service (which was born out of the Civil Rights Act) will also discuss the work they do to help individuals build a peaceful and more equitable society in schools and communities.
