Opioid Affected Youth Initiative Webinar: Trauma, Victimization, and Substance Use Disorder: Trends and Promising Practices to Facilitate Youth Resilience

The Opioid Affected Youth Initiative invites you to join an eight-part webinar series addressing the challenges associated with opioid and other substance use disorders (SUDs) among children, youth, and families.  These sessions will focus on increasing awareness and understanding of the specific needs of vulnerable communities and provide a framework for the development and implementation of evidence-based and targeted approaches that support families, reduce stigma, and promote prevention and recovery.  We will discuss strategies for building collaborative and coordinated responses and the importance of integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as trauma-informed practices to enhance support for families impacted by opioids and SUDs.   

In this webinar, Trauma, Victimization, and Substance Use Disorder:  Trends and Promising Practices to Facilitate Youth Resilience, Troy Montserrat-Gonzales, principal and chief executive officer of 3rive Consulting and Wellness, will assess targeted information about the relationship between trauma, victimization, and substance use, as well as promising practices for treatment and recovery.  This webinar will highlight strategies and resources for effectively exploring leadership, coordination, and evidence-based practices that prevent and respond to youth delinquency, trauma, and victimization and provide support for the continued efforts to create safer communities, enhance youth's welfare, and broaden opportunities that empower them to lead productive lives.

  • Analyze the relationship between trauma, substance use and SUDs, and victimization  
  • Explore evidence-based practices, tools, and strategies for addressing and treating trauma in youth  
  • Explore the common physical, emotional, and biological responses to trauma that prompt susceptibility to substance use/SUDs, and victimization  
  • Illustrate culturally responsive considerations for addressing the connection between race and trauma
