Spokane RISE Mentoring engages youth with school conduct issues that would otherwise result in a suspension or expulsion. This webinar will showcase steps taken to support students most likely to be disconnected from school prior to graduation. Leadership from Spokane Public Schools will share key components of the RISE Mentoring Program including:

  • How data are used to prioritize the specific schools where RISE Mentors and how students are referred.
  • Ways mentors engage with students and families to eliminate stressors that can negatively impact behavior.
  • How mentors model language and skills to help students communicate with their families and with school staff.
  • The role of mentors in supporting school efforts to de-escalate and re-direct students in crisis.

Spokane school leaders will share the impact of RISE Mentoring, lessons learned, and how the model can support a Community Violence Intervention approach.

Panelists:

  • Oscar Harris – Spokane Public Schools, Chief Family and Community Engagement Officer
  • Nicole Rosenkrantz – Spokane Public Schools, Executive Director of Community Relations and Diversity Training
