Data indicate that the percentage of students feeling unsafe at school, or on their route to and from school, has increased nearly 40% in recent years.
This session will assist participants in identifying how schools partnering with Community Violence Intervention (CVI) organizations use school and community data - along with relationships between students, families, and school staff - to create a Safe Passage program. Safe Passage programs place trained and trusted adults in locations around the school where violence is prevalent. This strategy provides critical opportunities to defuse student conflicts likely to result in violence on or off school grounds.
CVI experts will share best practices and lessons learned from their own Safe Passage experiences and offer recommendations for communities looking to establish similar strategies.
