OJJDP will host "Supporting Vulnerable Youth: Preventing and Combating Bias-Based Bullying and Hate Crimes" as part of OJJDP's Preventing Youth Hate Crimes & Identity-Based Bullying Initiative webinar series.
During the webinar, intended for youth justice professionals, presenters will:
- Explain bias-based crimes and bullying based on race, ethnicity, religion, body type, sexual orientation, gender identity, and disability
- Discuss tools to counter stereotypes and myths to diminish anti-Semitic, homophobic, and racist speech to help promote respectful, inclusive, and safe environments
- Explain the role of mentors and youth justice professionals when dealing with identity-based bullying or hate crimes
- Provide educational resources and interventions for direct service providers and juvenile justice professionals that encourage effective response strategies when incidents of hate or bias happen
