This report describes ALARM software, designed to assist correctional facilities in meeting the National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA’s) Life Safety Code (LSC).
ALARM is a Windows-compatible program that was developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) with support from the National Institute of Justice’s Office of Law Enforcement Standards. It was designed to help streamline, both in terms of time and money, the process of bringing correctional facilities into compliance with the LSC, one of the requirements for American Correctional Association (ACA) accreditation. ALARM offers a user-friendly spreadsheet environment capable of performing complicated mathematical procedures to determine the most efficient and cost-effective way for particular correctional facilities to become LSC compliant.
