This issue of AMBER Advocate presents several articles from Federal, State, local, Tribal, and foreign government and nongovernmental agencies and organizations on child abduction initiatives and innovations under the AMBER Alert program.
Abstract
First, Elizabeth Smart, abduction survivor, shares her personal story and the effectiveness of the AMBER Alert program at the 2007 National AMBER Alert Conference. Second, an overview of the National AMBER Alert Awareness Day is presented providing attention to abducted children. Third, the success of the Florida AMBER Alert in saving a child from an Internet predator is highlighted. Fourth, Janell Rasmussen, Minnesota's AMBER Alert Coordinator is profiled. Fifth, findings are highlighted from discussion groups, comprised of families of abducted children, in the family roundtable at the 2007 National AMBER Alert Conference. Sixth, strengths and weaknesses are identified in Native American communities in order to create a blueprint for AMBER Alerts in Indian country. Seventh, a breakdown on the relationship between the abductor and the victims from Canada's first comprehensive report on AMBER Alerts is presented. The final article highlights the expansion of the AMBER Alert Extranet to Missing Person Clearinghouse managers and Tribal representatives. This issue also contains additional information, resources, and events related to the AMBER Alert program.
