Abstract

This document provides the slides for a presentation on intimate partner violence-related strangulation (IPVRS). The background information provided here seeks to fulfill the following learning objectives for participants, including: to identify the signs and symptoms of strangulation; to understand the medical risks and potential long-term effects associated with strangulation; collaborate with law enforcement and medical professional partners to ensure a coordinated and supportive response that enhances victim education, safety, and evidence collection in support of investigations; to perform appropriate first responders based on role, to ensure improved outcomes for victims and proper preservation of investigative evidence; and to communicate effectively with victims about strangulation and obtain accurate comprehensive information and to provide victims with appropriate referrals to support services.
