This bulletin presents an overview of the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention's (OJJDP's), Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) program.

Abstract

Authorized under the Section 504 of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act of 2002, the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) has administered the Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) program to address the serious problem of underage drinking through the emphasis of law enforcement. The program encourages close partnerships between law enforcement agencies and community groups involved in prevention and intervention of underage drinking. The EUDL is a Federal program devoted exclusively to preventing alcohol consumption by minors. The program helps the 50 States, the District of Columbia, and the 5 United States territories prevent underage drinking. The EUDL program includes block grants, discretionary grants, training and technical assistance, and evaluation. Through EUDL funds, South Carolina implemented Alcohol Enforcement Teams (AETs) and Dewitt County, IL's, Youth in Action, implementing a number of environmental strategies to educate their community on the dangers of underage drinking. These two programs represent examples of programs helping families, communities, and law enforcement work together to prevent underage drinking. References
