Abstract

In this publication, the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) solicits applications for the Office of Justice Programs Community Based Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative. Eligible applicants include the following: city or township, county, special district, federally recognized Native American tribal, or state governments; small businesses; for-profit organizations other than small businesses; Native American tribal organizations, other than federally recognized tribal governments; nonprofits with or without a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education; private, public, state-controlled institutions of higher education; and public/Indian housing authorities. Successful applicants will receive funding to prevent and reduce violent crime in communities by supporting comprehensive, evidence-based community violence intervention (CVI) and prevention strategies. These programs include efforts to address gang and gun violence, based on partnerships among community residents, local government agencies, victim service providers, community-based organizations (CBOs), law enforcement, hospitals, researchers, and other community stakeholders. BJA encourages applications from agencies that have not previously received BJA funding and convening or governing bodies that can apply on behalf of one or more entities.
