Abstract
This information is intended to help the emergency first responder community select communication equipment to be used along with chemical and biological protective clothing and respiratory equipment. It includes manufacturer-supplied details on 181 communication equipment items. An extensive market survey was conducted to identify commercially available communication equipment. This survey included the identification of new equipment and interaction with numerous equipment vendors. The data fields are organized into six categories: general, operational parameters, physical parameters, available accessories, logistical parameters, and special requirements. The purpose of this guide is not to make recommendations about which equipment should be purchased, but to provide information available from vendors so commercially available equipment can be compared and contrasted. Because the testing, evaluation, and research processes of existing communications equipment will take several years to complete this initial guide was developed to facilitate the emergency first responder community in their evaluation and purchase of communications equipment. 5 appendices
