The Office of Justice Programs (OJUP) of the U.S. Justice Department presents this Update on its various emphases and sponsored programs related to law enforcement, corrections, the courts, and juvenile justice, along with a schedule of upcoming events related to criminal justice.
Abstract
The feature article provides an overview of OJP's FY 2012 budget proposal by the President. which totals $3 billion. For FY 2011, OJP continues to operate under a continuing resolution set to expire on March 4, 2011. Congress is working on the FY 2011 appropriations. OJP hopes that it will enact appropriations that support the Administration's priorities. Other reports in this update address OJP's transformation of victim services, sexual victimization in prisons and jail, and new perspectives on available policing publications. The release of the Trafficking Task Force's E-Guide is announced, along with a new Journal of Juvenile Justice. A report is provided on a workshop on indigent defense and the proposed program plan of the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP). Activities of the SMART Office are also described, along with research for the Real World Seminar. The convening of the Science Advisory Board is announced, followed by a review of the OJP leadership's opposition to "Scared Straight" programs. The Update concludes with a schedule of upcoming events related to OJP's policies and programs.
