This 1998 Report to Congress describes the initial stages of the ongoing evaluation of 93 projects funded by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) under the Juvenile Mentoring Program (JUMP).
Abstract
The report begins with an overview of principles guiding the OJJDP approach to juvenile crime prevention. The next chapter describes individual JUMP grants and intervention models selected by grantees to implement in their communities. Subsequent chapters provide information on youth served, volunteer mentors, and the nature of mentoring relationships. Finally, the report examines initial evaluation findings and some promising indicators of success and presents anticipated directions for future mentoring and mentoring-related activities. Appendixes contain additional information on JUMP grant awards and grantee locations and a list of additional resources. References, tables, and exhibits
