This report presents the results of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s 2007 model year vehicle test and evaluation.
Abstract
Vehicles were submitted in the “Police Package” category (identified as pursuit vehicles) from Daimler Chrysler, General Motors, and Ford to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Emergency Vehicle Operation Center. The vehicles submitted for evaluation were all 2007 model years. These included: Chevrolet Impala, Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Tahoe E-85, Dodge Charger V-6, Dodge Charger V-8, Dodge Magnum V-6, Dodge Magnum V-8, Ford CVPI 3.27, and the Ford CVPI 3.55. In addition, the Ford Expedition was tested under the special service vehicle category. The police package vehicles and special service vehicle were evaluated in several areas and under various conditions: vehicle specifications, 32 lap high speed vehicle test, pursuit course, braking, acceleration, heat, mechanical, communication, ergonomic, and fuel efficiency. In addition, a tire evaluation was conducted, specifically the Firestone P235/55R17 Firehawk GT pursuit tire. Rating scales were provided for most of the tests performed consisting of a rating of 1 through 10 (1=poor, 5=average, and 10=outstanding). Tables
