This document provides guidance for the development and delivery of law enforcement intelligence training and lays out the minimum training requirements in each of the following classifications: intelligence analyst; intelligence manager or commander; law enforcement executive; general law enforcement officer, basic criminal intelligence and criminal intelligence refresher; criminal intelligence officer; and train-the-trainer.
This document presents detailed standards that reflect the collective judgment of subject-matter experts (SMEs) regarding the minimum training needed to provide the basic knowledge, skills, and abilities for personnel in each of the classifications, including: intelligence analyst; intelligence manager or commander; law enforcement executive; general law enforcement officer, basic criminal intelligence and criminal intelligence refresher; criminal intelligence officer; and train-the-trainer. The document defines standards as specific courses or topics of instructions required to meet the training objective, it also emphasizes that personnel who meet these minimum standards will possess core competencies to perform their duties lawfully and effectively, however effectiveness and efficiency will increase with experience and additional training. The document’s recommendations include objectives, standards, and suggested curricula and sources of information, as well as time allocations.
