Abstract

This publication of the Office for Victims of Crime Human Trafficking Capacity Building Center discusses tribal community and federal responses to the Missing or Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP) crisis. Federal responses include legislative action, such as the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act. Federal funding is available through the Tribal Victim Services Set-Aside (TVSSA). The brief also discusses taskforces created to address the issue as well as the National Missing and Unidentified Person system (NamUs). A list of resources is also provided.
