OJP's mission is to provide Federal leadership in developing the nation's capacity to prevent and control crime, improve the criminal and juvenile justice systems, increase knowledge about crime and related issues, and assist crime victims. Within OJP, the Bureau of Justice Assistance, the Bureau of Justice Statistics, the National Institute of Justice, the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and the Office for Victims of Crime administer Federal grant, training and technical assistance, research and statistics programs. The 1999 report describes OJP contributions to: (1) Empowering Communities to Address Crime; (2) Breaking the Cycle of Substance Abuse and Crime; (3) Combating Family Violence; (4) Addressing Youth Crime; (5) Managing Offenders; (6) Protecting and Supporting Victims of Crime; (7) Enhancing Technology's Use in Addressing Crime; (8) Enhancing Law Enforcement Initiatives; and (9) Countering Terrorism & Ensuring Domestic Preparedness.
