Abstract

The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) monthly newsletter provides updates and current affairs awareness for OJJDP happenings and initiatives. This August 2024 issue features articles on the following topics: a webinar discussing youth activism’s role in the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s, and how youth today can use that as a template for action regarding modern concerns; OJJDP grantee efforts to reduce neighborhood violence in the Liberty City neighborhood of Miami, FL; the importance of intervention and support for youth rather than punitive measures regarding impulsive and risky behavior; one young man’s leveraging of a juvenile justice system encounter into a formative experience that has led him to law school; Native American programs that promote support from positive, caring adults in young people’s lives; OJJDP support for AmeriCorps to provide opportunities to justice system-involved youth; Children’s Bureau’s partnership with OJJDP; federal operations to recover missing children; and the need for accurate and timely data for responding to youth misbehavior. Additionally, new publications, upcoming events, and OJJDP funding information are found at the bottom of the issue.
