Highlights from the newsletter include: (1) the U.S. Department of Justice commemorated the 25th anniversary of National Missing Children’s Day held on May 21, 2008, in Washington, DC; (2) the second annual symposium on child safety was held in May 2008 in Springfield, MA focusing on Internet safety issues; (3) the Juvenile Justice Summit held in Miami, FL in May 2008 saluted the arrest prevention program; (4) the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) National Youth Gang Symposium was held in Atlanta, GA in June 2008 featuring workshops designed to enhance efforts to combat youth gang problems; (5) OJJDP will be holding their State Relations and Assistance Division (SRAD) and Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) Program annual conferences in Nashville, TN in August 2008; (6) training sessions offered in the Spring of 2008 addressed the needs of State Advisory Group (SAG) members, investigators and prosecutors of child pornography cases, and law enforcement and school officials who interview and interrogate juvenile witnesses; (7) the release of the guide, “You’re Not Alone: The Journey from Abduction to Empowerment” offered to young people who are victims of abduction and designed to help those who experience abduction begin to put their lives back together; and (8) news update from the Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and the Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice.
