This edition of the OJJDP News @ a Glance contains five primary articles on work being done by the U.S. Department of Justice to prevent juvenile delinquency and improve the lives of children.
Abstract
The first article, Justice Department Honors Law Enforcement Professionals and Private Citizens at National Missing Children's Day Ceremony, discusses the events of the National Missing Children's Day ceremony held on May 23, 2012 in Washington, DC. The second article, Justice and Education Departments Move Forward in Joint Effort to Keep Children In School and Out of the Justice System, discusses the Supportive School Discipline Initiative (SSDI). The third article, DOJ, OJJDP Observe National Children's Mental Health Awareness Day, discusses the speeches and activities from the 2012 National Children's Mental Health Awareness Day. The fourth article, Engaging Families as Valued Partners in the Juvenile Justice System, discusses the current efforts of the Coordination Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. The fifth article, Defending Childhood Grantees Meet To Learn and To Share Strategies for Addressing Children's Exposure to Violence, presents information on the May 2012 meeting of participants from the U.S. Attorney General's Defending Childhood Initiative. The newsletter also includes a section on upcoming events, news in brief regarding Department of Justice work, and new publications available from OJJDP.
