In January 2006, the Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention will host the 2006 National Conference, “Building on Success: Providing Today’s Youth with Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow,” in Washington, DC. Highlights from recently held conferences include: the 17th Annual Crimes Against Children, Annual National Leadership Conference, and Hamilton Fish Institute on “Persistently Safe Schools.” Program initiatives include: OJJDP Web site enhancements, guideline development to improve court handling of juvenile delinquency cases, and public awareness to promote mentoring and Internet safety. A new publication to be released in 2006 focuses on juvenile crime and victimization. Several currently available publications are listed in the areas of investigating child fatalities and juvenile arrest and court statistics. The recent funding activities and awards from OJJDP are presented in the areas of underage drinking laws and innovative approaches to dealing with children exposed to violence.
