This newsletter presents current up-to-date information on programs, conferences/symposiums, training, and publications affecting the field of juvenile justice from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
Highlights from the newsletter include: (1) the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention’s (OJJDP’s) publication, You’re Not Alone: The Journey from Abduction to Empowerment featured on a nationally syndicated talk show in September 2008; (2) OJJDP hosted the Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL), 10th Annual National Leadership Conference in Tennessee in August 2008; (3) more than $19 million in block grants were awarded in August to 50 States, 5 territories, and the District of Columbia by the Office of Justice Programs to enforce State and local underage drinking laws; (4) overview of findings of OJJDP’s 2004 research project, Girls Study Group (GSG); (5) OJJDP Administrator urges the members of the Hispanic National Bar Association to participate in mentoring programs serving Hispanic youth; (6) the Internet praised as a prosecution tool at the National Conference on Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Prevention held in New Orleans August 26-28, 2008; (7) OJJDP announces enhancements to the Web-based Socioeconomic Mapping and Resource Topography (SMART) system; (8) Tribal leaders are sought to comment on proposed changes to the Tribal Youth Program (TYP) expanding eligibility to apply for TYP funds; and (9) summaries of recently released OJJDP publications.
