This September/October 2012 online edition of OJJDP News @ a Glance contains three main articles discusses current OJJDP (Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention) efforts, as well as numerous briefs detailing additional work being done by the Office. The first article, OJJDP Announces $1.5 Million Grant to Reduce Youth Violence in Philadelphia, discusses efforts to address the problem of youth violence in Philadelphia. The second article, A First Drink Before a First Breath: Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, examines the problem of alcohol consumption by pregnant women. The third article, Update: OJJDP Green Reentry Program for Tribal Youth, discusses a program for using agricultural and environmentally sustainable technologies as a platform to teach vocational skills, promote healthy lifestyles, and deepen pride in Tribal traditions and culture. Additional sections of the newsletter include News Briefs, with numerous items discussing the Department of Justice and United Way efforts to assist children exposed to violence; the National Report on System-Involved Youth and Their Families; the development of school discipline policies that are consistent across juvenile justice, law enforcement, school, and health services agencies; the development of a toolkit on children's exposure to violence; the release of online bullying prevention training modules; the release of a national strategy for suicide prevention; and the release of two reports - one summarizing violent crime among households with children and the other highlighting State trends in juvenile justice legislation.
