This report describes the features and sources of training and technical assistance (TTA) resources available under federal grants for the design and implementation of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a nationwide initiative that develops collaboration among federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement officials, prosecutors, and community leaders to identify the most pressing violent-crime problems in a community and develop comprehensive strategies to address them.

Abstract

PSN is now supported by enhanced TTA resources from leading national organizations. TTA assists PSN task forces, local and state law enforcement, criminal justice agencies, and communities in planning, implementing, and assessing their violence-reduction PSN strategies. TTA for PSN projects can be provided in a variety of formats, and PSN sites and personnel have access to national training and networking opportunities. The areas in which TTA provides knowledge and guidance are leadership, partnerships, targeted and prioritized law enforcement, violence prevention, accountability for effective results, strategic problemsolving, site coordination, law enforcement and prosecution strategies, and victim services assistance. The national organizations providing TTA resources are Michigan State University, the CNA Institute for Public Research, and the National Center for Victims of Crime.
