This article provides a counter to the findings presented in Riman, et al. Examining performance and likelihood ratios for two likelihood ratio systems using the PROVEDIt dataset.

Abstract

In Examining performance and likelihood ratios for two likelihood ratio systems using the PROVEDIt dataset the authors find that the bulk of Riman et al. reports results based on flawed data and model configurations. In their methods, Riman et al. describe the use of filtered CSV files from the PROVEDIt dataset as primary input files. These files contain mixed DNA profiles analysed at a 1 rfu AT within GeneMapper ID-X. In what amounts to an apologia Riman et al. state: “We use the term LR system deliberately to emphasize that the assigned LR values are a product of the decisions that went into the interpretation process of the LR system and not solely the PGS.
