After presenting his "Review of Self-Exciting Spatio-Temporal Point Processes and Their Applications," at a conference, the author expresses his broad agreement with the perspectives presented by discussants following the review, and he then identifies and discusses areas of future research.
The areas of research reviewed are causality and mutually exciting processes, stochastic reconstruction, and estimation. He concludes by noting that "self-exciting spatio-temporal point processes are an active area of research across many fields of application; however, there are still many open questions. He hopes that his review and subsequent discussion will motivate further theoretical development, followed by advancement in methods and the availability of practical software. 2 figures and 7 references (publisher abstract modified)
