Abstract
This report presents statistics on five types of victim service providers (VSPs) that provided crime victims assistance in 2019: nonprofit or faith-based; governmental; hospital, medical, or emergency; campus; and tribal. It also examines by all VSPs and by VSP type the average number of services provided, type of services most commonly provided, gaps in services, and organizations that commonly referred victims to VSPs for assistance.
Highlights:
In 2019—
- About 51% of VSPs were nonprofit or faith-based, 42% were governmental, 3% were hospital, medical, or emergency, and 2% each were campus and tribal.
- Tribal VSPs provided the most types of services to victims on average (32), followed by nonprofit or faith-based VSPs (29); hospital, medical, or emergency (22); governmental (24); and campus VSPs (24).
- About three-quarters of VSPs (71%) assisted victims with filing for a restraining, protection, or no-contact order.
- Three-quarters of VSPs (75%) provided immediate or emergency safety planning to victims.
