This webinar addresses several psychological factors that impact police department recruitment and retention rates and how those challenges can be overcome.
This webinar, featuring several presenters, hosted by Kristin Saboe, highlights the partnership of Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) with The Department of Justice’s COPS Office, and evidence-based practices for enhancing police recruiting and hiring. In the webinar, Saboe notes the high-level professional and academic backgrounds of SIOP personnel, emphasizing the professional qualifications of the organization to provide science-backed advice regarding how people behave at work as individuals and how they interact in teams and groups as well as how that impacts performance on the larger organizational level. The webinar presenters also highlight the collaboration between SIOP and the COPS Office, how it works and what that the goals are for that partnership. The webinar’s presenters represent police departments from different U.S. states, and discuss how to face some of the challenges faced by modern police departments, including recruiting, hiring, and retaining good personnel; evidence and science-based tools for recruiting more women into the police profession; working with practical constraints such as budget and under-staffing; and psychological factors that impact the application process.
