This technical assistance report of Vision 21 - a federal initiative to transform crime victim services - focuses on two projects funded by the U.S. Justice Department's Office for Victim's of Crime (OVC) that highlight victim services provided through mobile applications.

Abstract

One project - which was developed by the Family Services Association of Dayton, Ohio - is a mobile application (app) and accompanying website called the AVIATOR, which has three objectives. One objective is to provide crime victims access to agencies, services, and support systems across the southwest area of Ohio. A second objective is to assist victim-serving programs, courts, police, medical professionals, and other community-based agencies in providing crime victims better access to resources and services; and the third objective is to empower crime victims to receive relief from the consequences of their victimization. In the second program described, the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) created a mobile app that assists victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, or stalking, as well as organizations that serve these victims in improving public awareness, outreach, and education in addressing technology-facilitated victimization and its consequences. Currently, NNEDV is working to launch a Spanish version of the app, and it recently incorporated recommendations and feedback from survivors with disabilities.
