This guide provides advice on how law enforcement agencies can recruit more women into the police force, in fulfillment of efforts to address the changing needs of public safety and police-community relations.
This document examines what modern policing should look like, what policies and practices are needed to help the profession better support law enforcement officers and repair damaged community-police relationships, as well as how to protect public safety and help neighborhoods thrive. It addresses stakeholders’ efforts to meet law enforcement agencies’ needs, especially the need to hire the right people for the job – those who can enforce the law and protect public safety while behaving with dignity, respect, and fairness; it promotes officers’ knowledge and familiarity with community members and investment in their well-being; and encourages the formation of community partnerships. Specifically, the document focuses on one aspect of what is required to achieve those goals and ideals: how to recruit more women into policing careers.
