A DESCRIPTION OF THE ORGANIZATION, OPERATIONS, AND SERVICES OF THE MARYLAND DEPARTMENT OF JUVENILE SERVICES, WHICH WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1967 AS A CENTRALIZED, STATE-DIRECTED AGENCY FOR JUVENILES.
Abstract
TRENDS IN THE TREATMENT OF JUVENILE DELINQUENCY AFTER ESTABLISHMENT OF THE DEPARTMENT ARE DESCRIBED. THESE INCLUDE INCREASED USE OF INTAKE SERVICES, INCREASED COMMUNITY BASED TREATMENT AND JUVENILE COURT DIVERSION, INCREASED STAFF TRAINING, AND DIFFERENTIAL TREATMENT OF CHILDREN IN NEED OF SUPERVISION AND DELINQUENT YOUTHS. SERVICES PROVIDED IN THE COMMUNITY AND IN THE JUVENILE CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS ARE BRIEFLY DESCRIBED.
