Abstract
The Harold Rogers Prescription Drug Monitoring Program issues grants to States for the purpose of creating and enhancing their Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs (PDMP). Meeting participants received information on and discussed matters related to this grant program. On the first day of the meeting, the welcome and opening remarks were followed by presentations and discussion related to the opioid epidemic in the United States. Federal/State collaborations in addressing this epidemic were then addressed. After a lunch break, the meeting addressed PDMP new initiatives, researcher/practitioner partnerships, and unsolicited reporting. The first day's meeting closed with a PDMP open forum. The second day of the meeting opened with a panel of representatives from Federal agencies discussing their activities related to countering the opioid epidemic and how they can facilitate the work of State PDMPs. Other activities on the second day focused on updates of Federal and State legislation relevant to PDMP work, interactions between medical examiners/coroners and PDMPs, addressing the opioid epidemic, and data-driven responses to prescription drug abuse. A PDMP open forum also closed the second day of the meeting. Topics addressed on the third and final day of the meeting were integration and data-sharing, law enforcement initiatives, and the work of PDMPs in other countries.
