REVIEWS CORRECTIONAL POLICIES IN THE UNITED STATES, CANADA, EUROPE, AND COMMUNIST COUNTRIES.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR EXAMINES CURRENT AVAILABLE DATA ON TREATMENT OF THE ABNORMAL OFFENDER IN THE UNITED STATES, ENGLAND, CANADA, THE SCANDANAVIAN COUNTRIES, THE NETHERLANDS, FRANCE, BELGIUM, LUXEMBOURG, SWITZERLAND, GERMANY, ITALY, BULGARIA, AND YUGOSLAVIA. HIGHLIGHTS ARE GIVEN OF LAWS AND STATUTES IN EACH COUNTRY (SUCH AS THE M'NAGHTEN RULE IN THE UNITED STATES) RELATIVE TO THE LEGAL HANDLING OF THE ABNORMAL OFFENDER. COMMENTS ARE MADE AS WELL ON PRESENT TREATMENT FACILITIES, THE QUALITY OF TREATMENT, AND ON EACH COUNTRY'S DEFINITION AND RECOGNITION OF CRIMINALLY INSANE BEHAVIOR. THE DATA SHOW THAT TREATMENT OF THE ABNORMAL OFFENDER DOES NOT DIFFER SIGNIFICANTLY IN THE UNITED STATES, EUROPE, AND COMMUNIST COUNTRIES.
