DESIGNED FOR USE IN THE COORDINATED COMMUNITY OFFENDER EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM (CCOEP), THESE 16 STUDENT WORKBOOKS AND THE TEACHER'S GUIDE AND PROGRAM MANUAL LEAD OFFENDERS THROUGH STEPS NEEDED TO RESUME EMPLOYMENT.
Abstract
THE AMERICAN CORRECTIONAL ASSOCIATION DEVELOPED THIS WORKBOOK SET TO SERVE A WIDE VARIETY OF CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS AND PROGRAMS, JUVENILES AND ADULTS, AND MALES AND FEMALES. THE PROGRAM MANUAL DESCRIBES HOW TO STRUCTURE A CCOEP PROGRAM, RECRUIT VOLUNTEERS, PROCESS CLIENTS, KEEP RECORDS AND EVALUATE PROGRAMS. SAMPLE FORMS ACCOMPANY EACH TOPIC. SPECIAL ISSUES TREATED IN THE MANUAL ARE EX-OFFENDER EMPLOYMENT RESTRICTIONS, VETERANS' BENEFITS AND UPGRADING DISCHARGES, THE FEDERAL BONDING PROGRAM, AND TARGETED JOBS AND WIN TAX CREDITS. A TEACHER'S GUIDE INTRODUCES THE 16 STUDENT WORKBOOKS AND OFFERS SUGGESTIONS FOR PREPARING LESSON PLANS AND SESSIONS. SEVEN OF THE WORKBOOKS DEAL DIRECTLY WITH OBTAINING A JOB, AND SUBJECTS RANGE FROM BUILDING A WILLINGNESS TO WORK AND HUNT FOR A JOB, GETTING A SOCIAL SECURITY CARD, WRITING A RESUME, FILLING OUT A JOB APPLICATION, AND INTERVIEWING TO KEEPING THE JOB. THREE WORKBOOKS TEACH STUDENTS TO MANAGE THEIR MONEY, HANDLE THEIR CHECKING ACCOUNTS, AND ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN GOOD CREDIT. ANOTHER EXPLAINS HOW TO FILL OUT FEDERAL INCOME TAX RETURNS, AND THE REMAINING FIVE DEAL WITH SUBJECTS AS BUYING A USED CAR, PLANNING A FAMILY, PROVIDING FOR HOUSEHOLD NEEDS, AND FIGHTING DRUG AND ALCOHOL ABUSE. EACH WORKBOOK CONTAINS STUDY PROBLEMS AND RELATED AND DETAILED ADVICE. RESOURCES FOR EX-OFFENDERS ARE ALSO LISTED. FOR RELATED DOCUMENTS, SEE NCJ 63908-25. (MHP)
