This introduction to systems for controlling movement within a facility and for identifying personnel is a reference for selecting such systems, evaluating products, choosing a vendor, and managing the system's implementation.
Abstract
An overview of security systems addresses elements of a total security system, alarms and alarm systems, closed-circuit television equipment and systems, designing the total security system, and the access control system as part of the total security system. A discussion of applications of access control systems gives particular attention to industrial facilities, offices, financial institutions, and hotels. A chapter on access control in computer and communications security considers reasons for computer crime losses, security vulnerabilities in computer and communications operations, related security products, and vendors. A review of the principles of access control and personal identification systems considers access control techniques, combinations and miscellaneous features of such systems, access control systems versus personal identification systems, and errors in such systems. Separate chapter cover keypad access control systems, card and other portable-key systems, proximity access control systems, access control systems based on physical attributes, and command and control systems. The book concludes with discussions of the selection and implementation of an access control system and the future of access control and electronic security systems. Illustrative figures, tables, subject index.
