THE VOLUNTARY ACCREDITATION PROCESS ADMINISTERED BY THE COMMISSION ON ACCREDITATION FOR CORRECTIONS OF THE AMERICAN CORRECTIONAL ASSOCIATION TO MEASURE AGENCY COMPLIANCE WITH STANDARDS IS EXPLAINED.
Abstract
THE PURPOSE OF THE BOOKLET IS TO FACILITATE THE USE OF THE ACCREDITATION PROCESS BY CORRECTIONS AGENCIES IN MEETING THE COMMISSION'S STANDARDS IN SUCH AREAS AS ADULT COMMUNITY RESIDENTIAL SERVICES, JUVENILE PROBATION, PAROLE FIELD SERVICES, ADULT INSTITUTIONS, AND LOCAL DETENTION FACILITIES. RELEVANT TERMINOLOGY IS DEFINED, AND A FLOWCHART DEPICTING THE ACCREDITATION PROCESS IS PRESENTED. PUBLICATION DATES AND PROJECTED PUBLICATION DATES FOR THE COMMISSION'S STANDARDS MANUALS ARE NOTED. THE FOLLOWING ASPECTS OF THE ACCREDITATION PROCESS ARE REVIEWED: INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE; ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA; APPLICATION; CORRESPONDENT STATUS; CANDIDATE STATUS; STANDARDS COMPLIANCE AUDIT; ACCREDITATION STATUS; RECONSIDERATION PROCESS; AND REACCREDITATION. THE AVAILABILITY OF ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON SPECIFIC PROCEDURES AND ELEMENTS WITHIN THE PROCESS IS NOTED.
