Abstract
The demographic profiles for AIDS, ARC, and HIV cases cover the number of new cases by year, incidence rate, projected new cases, number of cases by age group, inmate drug abuse history and sexual orientation, and race. The demographic profile of all AIDS mortalities includes AIDS mortalities by year, sex of inmate, mortality rate, number of cases by age group, inmate history of drug abuse and sexual orientation, race, and marital status. Other information on mortalities addresses county of commitment, conviction offense, time in the California Department of Corrections, hospital at time of death, period of final hospitalization, primary cause of death, and projected number of mortalities. Information is also provided on some general topics related to AIDS. These include problems in projections, the proportion of seripositive persons who will develop AIDS, the future course of the epidemic, opportunities for altering the course or the epidemic, and the costs of health care for HIV-related conditions. 28 figures, 2 tables.
