This article presents a listing of active hate groups and patriot groups, as well as their active Web sites in the United States for the year 2002.
Abstract
This article provides a listing of all known and active chapters of hate organizations and patriot organizations within the United States for the year 2002. The list of hate groups consists of 708 active hate groups which increased by 5 percent from 676 last year. The listing is based on information gathered by the Intelligence Project. The groups are categorized and include the Ku Klux Klan (n=133), Neo-Nazi (n=220), Racist Skinhead (n=18), Christian Identity (n=27), Black separatist (n=82), Neo-Confederate (n=91), and other (n=137). A listing is also provided on 443 United States-based hate sites on the World Wide Web and categorized as above. The Intelligence Report also identified 143 patriot groups that were active in 2002. Of the 143 groups, 54 were militia with the remainder including “common-law” courts, publishers, ministries, and citizen groups. Patriot groups are seen as in opposition to the “New World Order” and advocate to extreme anti-government doctrines. In addition, 152 sites on the World Wide Web are listed and linked to the patriot movement in the United States in 2002.
