This report presents a summary of activities of the institutes of the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Program network in 2008.
Abstract
Activities of the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) will submit a report to the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice at its 18th session as well as information on the activities to be undertaken by the UNICRI in 2008. Activities of the regional and affiliated institutes undertaken in 2008 are summarized from the Asia and Far East Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders, the European Institute for Crime Prevention and Control (affiliated with the United Nations), the African Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders, the International Center for Criminal Law Reform and Criminal Justice Policy, the Australian Institute of Criminology, International Institute of Higher Studies in Criminal Sciences, the Naif Arab University for Security Sciences, the International Center for the Prevention of Crime, Institute for Security Studies, and the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law. A summary of activities undertaken in 2008 of the International Scientific and Professional Advisory Council are also presented. Highlights of activities include: training courses and seminars, information and documentation, international cooperation and partnerships, educational activities, scientific activities, technical assistance, information exchange, reports, and publications, countering organized crime and money laundering, and actions on cybercrime. This report is a summary of activities carried out in 2008 by the institutes comprising the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Program Network and prepared in accordance with Economic and Social Council resolutions 1992/22, 1994/21, and based on contributions from the institutes.
