AN ADDITIONAL PROTOCOL TO THE PROVISIONS OF THE EUROPEAN CONVENTION ON INFORMATION ON FOREIGN LAW SIGNED BY THE MEMBER STATES OF THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE IS PRESENTED IN ENGLISH AND FRENCH LANGUAGE TEXTS.
Abstract
THE AIMS OF THE PROTOCOL ARE TO EXTEND THE SYSTEM OF INTERNATIONAL MUTUAL ASSISTANCE ESTABLISHED BY THE CONVENTION IN THE FIELD OF CRIMINAL LAW AND PROCEDURE IN A MULTILATERAL FRAMEWORK OPEN TO ALL CONTRACTING PARTIES TO THE CONVENTION. FURTHER, IN VIEW OF THE DESIRABILITY OF ELIMINATING ECONOMIC OBSTACLES TO LEGAL PROCEEDINGS, THE SYSTEM ESTABLISHED BY THE CONVENTION IS EXTENDED TO THE FIELD OF LEGAL AID AND ADVICE IN CIVIL AND COMMERCIAL MATTERS. CONSIDERATIONS FOR DENUNCIATION, ACCEPTANCE, WITHDRAWAL, OR RESERVATIONS CONCERNING THE PROPOSED PROTOCOL ARE ALSO SET FORTH FOR CONTRACTING PARTIES. SIGNATORIES TO THE PROTOCOL INCLUDE REPRESENTATIVES OF AUSTRIA, BELGIUM, DENMARK, FRANCE, AND NORWAY. STATES THAT HAVE NOT YET ACCEDED TO THE PROTOCOL ARE ALSO LISTED. (JAP)
