THIS TEXTBOOK COVERS THE ENTIRE CONTENT OF CALIFORNIA'S COLLEGE COURSE ON PRINCIPLES AND PROCEDURES OF JUSTICE.
Abstract
THE BOOK FOLLOWS THE CURRICULUM DEVELOPED BY EDUCATORS IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE THROUGHOUT THE STATE. THE BOOK IS DESIGNED AS A TEXT FOR MAJORS IN ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE IN BOTH COMMUNITY COLLEGES AND FOUR YEAR COLLEGES. THE BOOK'S FIRST TWO CHAPTERS DISCUSS THE LEGAL FOUNDATION APPLICABLE TO ALL CRIMINAL JUSTICE COMPONENTS OF THE JUSTICE SYSTEM INCLUDING THE POLICE FUNCTION AND PROCESS, THE CORONER, RELATED STATE AGENCIES AND REGULATORY PROCEEDINGS, THE LEGAL PROFESSION, THE COURT AND ITS OFFICERS, GRAND JURIES, AND TRIAL JURORS. SUBSEQUENT CHAPTERS COVER THE PROCESSES OF JUSTICE, INCLUDING INITIAL CONFINEMENT, ACCUSATORY PLEADINGS, ARRAIGNMENTS, PLEAS, PRELIMINARY HEARINGS, TRIAL PROCEDURE, AND CORRECTIONAL CONCEPTS AND PROCESS. EACH CHAPTER INCLUDES A LIST OF LEARNING OBJECTIVES, INTRODUCTION, SUMMARY, AND DISCUSSION QUESTIONS. COURT DECISIONS ARE CITED TO SUPPORT THE TOPICS DISCUSSED.
