Significant data and relevant statistics concerning the administrative office of the Illinois courts are presented in this annual report.
Abstract
The report notes that the number of new filings in the appellate court increased from 4,337 in 1978 to 5,651 in 1979, an increase of 30 percent. The number of cases terminated in the appellate court was 4,660 in 1979 compared to 4,472 in 1978, an increase of 4 percent. For the circuit courts, the number of new filings in 1979 was 3,831,957 compared to 3,751,826 in 1978, an increase of 2 percent. The major increases were in the categories of law, chancery, family (nonsupport), felonies, misdemeanors, ordinance violations, and juvenile. For each category of court (supreme, appellate, and circuit), the report presents information on jurisdiction, organization, and caseloads, and numerous tables and graphs giving relevant statistics. Appendixes present a judicial article of the constitution of 1970, a summary of the historical development of the administrative office, the judicial salary structure, and a chronology of the judges of the Illinois Supreme Court from 1818 to the present.
