Violent death by murder, suicide, or accident is a serious mental health problem for adolescents and young adults, particularly behaviorally disordered adolescents and those who are officially and unofficially juvenile delinquents.
Abstract
This paper reviews recent data on the incidence of violent crimes committed by adolescents and discusses the psychiatric implications of violent adolescent behavior. The frequency of violent death as seen in this adolescent population is noted. Adolescent violence is clearly a significant challenge to the mental health professions.
