Abstract
Highlights from this report on projected adult correctional populations for Texas prisons include the following: by August 2004, total prison capacity is expected to be 154,486 beds, with capacity increasing to 150,602 for 2004-05, 153,823 for 2006-07, and 159,084 for 2008-09; and the active parole supervision population is expected to increase from 77,521 in 2005 to 81,633 in 2009, while the felony direct community supervision population is expected to decrease, from 157,127 in 2004 to 152,469 in 2009. Highlights from this report on the projected juvenile correctional populations for Texas juvenile institutions include the following: Texas Youth Commission (TYC) residential populations are projected to be 4,850 for 2004-05, 4,955 for 2006-07, and 5,147 for 2008-09; and the number of juveniles receiving 1 of 3 types of supervision (adjudicated probation, deferred prosecution, conditional release) is expected to increase from 40,638 in 2004 to 42,620 in 2009. This report from the State of Texas Legislative Budget Board presents information on adult and juvenile correctional populations for fiscal years 2004 through 2009. Data for the report were obtained from the Texas Youth Commission and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
