SUGGESTION THAT MORE TIME AND MONEY BE SPENT ON POLICE OFFICER DRIVER TRAINING TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS AND THE RELATED ECONOMIC LOSS DUE TO INJURIES, REDUCED FORCE STRENGTH AND INCREASED MUNICIPAL INSURANCE.
Abstract
THE RECOMMENDED FUNDING OPTIONS FOR SUCH TRAINING INCLUDE HAVING PROGRAM COSTS ABSORBED BY OTHER FUNCTIONS WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT, OBTAINING GRANTS THROUGH STATE DEPARTMENTS OF HIGHWAY SAFETY TO PAY FOR OUTSIDE TRAINING, USING FUNDS FROM STATE COMMISSIONS ON PEACE OFFICER OFFICER STANDARDS AND TRAINING, AND GENERATING SUPPORT FROM CITY BUDGET MAANGERS BASED ON THE POTENTIAL SAVINGS OF SUCH TRAINING.
