A 2.5-day crime prevention course, designed for law enforcement officers who have already completed the basic crime prevention course, is provided.
Abstract
The course consists of 14 modules, including elements of an effective municipal crime prevention program, introduction to crime data analysis, identification of crimes and data elements for analysis, basic statistical techniques for crime data analysis, community profile, targeting crime prevention programs, developing an action plan, introduction to group dynamics, community organization/programs, commencement, community crime prevention activities, performance monitoring and reporting, and advanced crime prevention course summary. The modules are uniformly structured with the following components: title and number, time required, objective, technique, materials required, resources, and lesson plan. The process material provides step-by-step instructions for the instructor in the various training exercises. The content material gives background information for each of the training exercises and provides supplemental facts to help the instructor elicit desired responses from crime prevention officer participants. The transparencies necessary for conducting the seminar are included, as is a copy of the training course agenda. In addition, a 19-item bibliography is presented. Implementation documents, including an advanced course checklist, sample letters of invitation for a crime prevention officer and for a senator or representative, and a letter of appreciation for the host of the seminar are provided.
